GLOCK’s Hat Trick for 2018 – Three New 9mm Pistols By Andre’ M. Dall’au

Today GLOCK, Inc. has introduced the 9×19 GLOCK 26 and the GLOCK 34 Modular Optic System (MOS) to the Generation 5 pistol family. Also, GLOCK has introduced an entirely new “Crossover” pistol, the GLOCK 19X, which combines the best features of two of its most popular and most trusted field-tested platforms as well including almost ALL the features of the GLOCK MHS offering that the Pentagon refused to shoot head-to-head against its only opposition, the SIG SAUER.

The G19X comes with three magazines, four backstraps and cleaning gear in a unique coyote brown case.

The G26 Gen5 and G34 Gen5 MOS continue the evolution of perfection with over twenty design changes while maintaining the proven GLOCK reliability, simple engineering, three internal safeties and features such as four different sized backstraps to give shooters the ability to have a near-custom grip fit. “The development of our Gen5 pistols was the result of the…desire to meet the requests of the consumer market,” said GLOCK, Inc. VP Josh Dorsey. “We have combined the standards of high-level performance and reliability with distinctive design enhancements to improve durability, accuracy, and performance. The benefits enhance the shooter experience at the range and in high-stress situations where fractions of a second matter. Among the design enhancements continued in the Gen5 line are no finger grooves, ambidextrous slide stop levers for better versatility, GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) which delivers increased accuracy with enhanced polygonal rifling with an improved barrel crown, and an nDLC finish, which is a tougher and more durable finish that is exclusive to the GLOCK manufacturing process. The G34 Gen5 also comes with a flared magazine well, a solid top and “de-horned” slide.

The G19X has almost all the features of the GLOCK MHS submission with the exception of the external safety.

The new G19X “Crossover” pistol uses a full-size GLOCK 17 frame and the compact GLOCK 19 slide for the ideal pistol for tactical conditions, duty use and self-defense situations. “The G19X was developed for the military and is a practical everyday pistol that will do what you need it to do, when you need it to; every time, in every condition,” said GLOCK VP Josh Dorsey. “The pistol was developed for the military using GLOCKs combat proven experience with consideration to efficiency, dependability and durability Through rigorous testing, the G19X stands out above the competition and has the ability to function in harsh climates and all conditions with increased accuracy and ultimate reliability. Our goal was to meet the demanding needs of the military while maintaining our standard of perfection,” said Dorsey. “With proven testing results and fewer parts than our competitors’ pistols, the G19X has maximum efficiency, reliability and is easy to maintain.”

The new G34 Gen5 MOS is different from Gen4 by having a solid top and dehorned slide as well as a better barrel, trigger and flared magazine well.

For the first time ever for an OEM GLOCK, the GLOCK 19X’s improved nPVD slide coating that prevents corrosion, resists chemicals, and stands up against the elements, comes colored, matched to the G19X coyote color. Each G19X includes a standard 17-round magazine and two 17+2-round magazines along with a coyote-colored pistol case. Among the additional design features of the G19X are the GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) which delivers increased accuracy with enhanced polygonal rifling as well as an improved barrel crown, no finger grooves, ambidextrous slide stop levers for better versatility, and a lanyard loop. The aggregate effect of all the G19X design enhancements gives any user the “Crossover to Confidence” to succeed and survive in all situations. The G19X will be available on select dealer shelves beginning January 22nd.

Shooting the new GLOCK pistols helped me be a better shooter as EVERY shot went where I aimed – so I was able to better diagnose my misses and training needs.

But how is the G34 Gen5 MOS, G26 Gen5 and G19X to shoot? I was invited to view and shoot the new Generation 5 G17 and G19 pistols, as well as the new G34 Gen5, G26 Gen5 and G19X, long before they were made public – after signing a NDA – and found that the Gen5 pistols and the G19X (almost identical to the proposed U.S. Army MHS offering) are substantially improved and excellent for even the most discerning shooter.

Although while I found the frame changes like the flared magazine well on the G17, G19 and G34 Gen5, and removal of finger grooves, which was an improvement from previous models, what really impressed me was that my accuracy was demonstratively better with the GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GNB) together with a massively improved trigger. The Gen5 trigger is comparable to the best after-market drop-in, being much, much less spongy and crisp. But as good as that was, what really blew me away was how easy it is now to “shoot off the reset.” The “reset” is when the trigger essentially re-cocks itself through the gas operation of the slide. The slide must only travel about a half-inch rearward – well before even the empty casing is ejected or a new round is chambered –  to re-set the trigger sear, giving the shooter the ability to just move the trigger just a fraction of its total travel forward, feel the distinctive (once you recognize it) “CLICK” to re-press the trigger for an extremely fast follow-on shot. OK, that may seem silly for a fraction of a second difference advantage to send a second, third or fourth round downrange, but in both gunfights and competitions, it is good to be first, and pays to be a winner.

The G26 Gen5 is the subcompact, double stack concealment weapon hugely popular with LE and self-defense shooters.

I was able to place my shots so well, when I was off target I knew it was me, so that EVERY shot was useful as either a diagnostic for improvement or validation of my use of fundamentals. With the improved accuracy of the Marksman Barrel, every Gen5 GLOCK now is competition-ready, and will enhance shooters’ ability to make first-round hits as well as for duty firearms, to improve qualification scores and shorten both range time and ammunition costs.
